The Jewel
A Poem by Dr. X.
I left it here I know it
in this dark and distant land
like the prophet in the desert
my footsteps are the wind
It is itself the seeker
and all that's ever sought
it is said you can find it
by forever seeking not.
Buried now ever deeper
in sands of endless thought
by melting into nothing
this precious jewel is bought.
Across the trackless desert
I wandered all my life
a thirst for understanding
a passage without light.
There came a silent evening
in the Oasis of my mind
That which I was seeking
I knew I'd never find…
Not at least by knowing
for it cannot be known
The place I am going
no man can ever own.
For it is not an object
Cannot become a thing
It resides in nothing
Nothingness it brings.
Now the stars are rising
be quiet,
there is time
hidden by my nature
the jewel I'll never find.
